In the 2011 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year, Newton had circled this date as a chance to face his idol Michael Vick on the national stage since his was a little schoolboy. Although he didn't get that wish, it still was a very special night for him. At that time, Newton finished 18-of-28 passing for 306 yards, the two TDs and no turnovers in all, and that was his best effort of the season.

When the game at Atlanta and Chicago, the Panthers lost six games by less than one touchdown. But they showed they were actual better than theri before record. Newton led a 95-yard drive to open the third quarter, finishing it off with a 1-yard leap to give the Panthers a 21-15 lead. Furthermore, he hit Louis Murphy for a 55-yard gain on a second-and-11 from Carolina's 16. He himself said, "I think my best game is still to come. I'm still focused on getting better each and every week." After Carolina went ahead 24-22 early in the fourth quarter on Graham Gano's 23-yard field goal, the coach Ron Rivera of Panthers said, "It's been a long time in coming. Lots of people contributed and made plays. Real proud of what we did and the things we did to give ourselves a chance to win."

For the splendid performance from Newton on Monday night, the fans were very happy and spoke highly of him. They thought he was young not doing everything perfectlym, but he was calm and didn't try to force anything and make mistakes. His way of playing had impressed much on the fans. They felt that waching his game would be fun even though he lost some times.
